Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy teases 'unprecedented fraud crackdown' announcement with DHS, DOJ

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy signaled Sunday that the Trump administration is preparing to unveil a major new push aimed at combating fraud.

Writing on X, Duffy previewed what he described as an “unprecedented fraud crackdown” set to be announced Monday.

“TOMORROW: UNPRECEDENTED FRAUD CRACKDOWN,” Duffy posted.

His message also tagged Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Department of Justice and the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud — a sign that the announcement could involve a coordinated effort across multiple federal agencies.

Duffy offered no additional specifics, leaving unclear when or where the announcement will be held, what category of fraud officials plan to address, or whether any arrests or enforcement actions are expected.

The teaser comes as the administration continues to expand its broader anti-fraud agenda. In March, Trump created the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud to help coordinate federal efforts focused on fraud involving government benefit programs.

The Justice Department has also launched a National Fraud Enforcement Division tasked with investigating and prosecuting the theft or fraudulent misuse of taxpayer funds.

At the Transportation Department, Duffy has partnered with DHS in recent months on enforcement efforts tied to the commercial trucking sector, targeting alleged fraud and safety violations involving improperly issued commercial driver’s licenses, fraudulent driving schools and foreign drivers who were not properly vetted.

The agencies announced a joint investigation in July into about 75 commercial driving schools suspected of fraud, including allegedly falsifying training records and improperly certifying drivers.

The two departments have also conducted roadside enforcement operations targeting unqualified foreign commercial drivers.
