Multiple people injured in Kentucky church shooting after gunman shot at state trooper

MULTIPLE people have been injured in a shooting at a church in Kentucky.

Cops said the gunman opened fire around 11:35 am on Sunday, shooting a state trooper who was injured.

The suspected gunman is dead, the Lexington Police Department confirmed though it is not yet known how they died.

“On July 13, 2025, at 11:36 a.m. in Fayette County, Kentucky State Police reported a trooper-involved shooting,” officials announced on X.

“The alleged shooter injured a trooper and subsequently fled to Richmond Road Baptist Church, where the Kentucky State Police and Lexington Police Department successfully apprehended the individual.

“At this time, we can confirm that the trooper is receiving medical attention.”

EMS rushed to the scene where there were multiple victims.

The condition and exact number of victims is not yet not known.

“KSP will provide more information as it becomes available,” the police statement added.

Senator Rand Paul said that initial shooting began at Blue Grass Airport and then carried on to the baptist church.

An investigation is ongoing which is impacting Terminal Drive meaning people using the airport are being directed to use other parking.

However all flights are running as scheduled.

“Kelley and I are praying for all the victims, the injured trooper, and their families,” Paul wrote on X.

“We are grateful for the brave first responders. Violence like this has no place.”

He added that he was “saddened to hear about the tragic shootings”.

Meanwhile, Governor Andy Beshear asked for prayers for those who were injured.

“We ask for prayers for all those impacted by this unfortunate violence and express gratitude for the prompt action taken by the Lexington Police Department and Kentucky State Police,” stated the governor.
