Florida jail worker had sexual relationship with inmate: cops

Things have taken a turn for the worse for one Florida kitchen worker.

A kitchen employee at a Florida jail was recently arrested for engaging in an “inappropriate relationship” with an inmate she was assigned to supervise.

Kelly Jo Johnson, 56, is facing a felony charge for sexual misconduct with an inmate, following an investigation that exposed the illicit affair behind bars.

Johnson, who had been on the job at the Walton County Jail for only five months, was terminated last week, as reported by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began after a tip-off from an informant and involved reviewing jail phone records, surveillance footage, and conducting numerous interviews.

Johnson was fired last week after working at the Walton County Jail for just five months.

Ultimately, authorities concluded there was enough evidence to believe that Johnson had unlawful physical contact with the inmate within a secure area of the jail. Additionally, she allegedly communicated with him in ways meant to bypass official monitoring, according to a statement from the WCSO.

She turned herself in on Wednesday after a warrant was issued for her arrest.

“These actions are a betrayal of the professionalism and ethical standards we expect of every employee,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson.

“When someone abuses their position of trust, we will take swift and decisive action. No one is above the law – civilian or sworn – who works at this agency.”

The sheriff’s office says additional administrative reviews are still underway.
