The Lake City Police Department says officers found multiple spent shell casings of various calibers at the scene.
LAKE CITY, Fla. — According to the Lake City Police Department, two individuals were taken to the hospital early Saturday morning after a shooting occurred at a block party on Mississippi Way in Lake City.
At approximately 1:24 a.m., LCPD says officers were sent to 698 Northwest Mississippi Way in reference to a report of a person shot.
When they arrived, the police department says officers found a man lying on the ground, suffering from two gunshot wounds to his “lower body.”
“Officers provided immediate assistance until EMS arrived to transport the victim to a local hospital,” LCPD stated in a news update. “Upon examining the area, officers found several spent shell casings of different calibers both on the road and nearby private properties.”
Police say three vehicles were found with apparent bullet damage.
During their investigation, LCPD reported that officers found out the second victim had reached a local hospital independently. Police noted that this victim was given treatment for injuries that weren’t life-threatening and was discharged from the hospital afterward.
At this time, LCPD says no suspects have been identified.
“We are thankful that this incident did not result in any fatalities,” Chief of Police Gerald Butler said in the release. “However, this level of gun violence is unacceptable, and we are committed to pursuing those responsible. We ask anyone with information to come forward.”
The police department is actively investigating the incident. Anyone with information on it is asked to call LCPD at 386-752-4343. To report information anonymously, contact the LCPD’s tips line at 386-719-2068 or Crime Stoppers of Columbia County at 386-754-7099.
