St. Johns County man sues Universal, claims he was stuck on Harry Potter ride for an hour

St. Johns County Resident Files Lawsuit Against Universal, Alleging One-Hour Harry Potter Ride Delay

A St. Johns County man is suing Universal Orlando after a Harry Potter ride left him tilted midair for about an hour, a lawsuit states.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A man from St. Johns County is filing a lawsuit against Universal Orlando Resort, alleging he was trapped on a Harry Potter ride for more than an hour, according to the suit.

The legal complaint indicates that on July 2, 2023, Casey Causey visited Universal Orlando Resort and was on the “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey” ride when it “suddenly halted.”

At the time it came to a halt, the complaint asserts the carriage was stuck in midair “tilted backward and to the right” for nearly an hour. The lawsuit points to a power outage as the cause of the stoppage and holds Universal accountable for not ensuring backup generators were in place for such incidents.

The lawsuit also suggests Universal Studios should have known about the defect in the ride and done something about it prior to allowing guests ride the attraction.

Causey claims he suffered “bodily injury, resulting in pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, scarring, mental anguish, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, expense of hospitalization, medical and nursing care treatment, loss of earnings, loss of the ability to earn money, damage to property, inconvenience and aggravation of a previously existing condition.”

Causey is seeking damages of $50,000.

First Coast News reached out to Universal for comment, but they said they do not comment on pending litigation.
