Rubber duckie, you’re the one — apparently, at least for one late-night Georgia trespasser.
Police are searching for an unidentified man who allegedly entered a stranger’s pool area and hot tub near Savannah, spent time interacting with a rubber duck and left with about $1,200 worth of pool towels.
Home surveillance footage captured the unusual visit, showing the man making himself comfortable in the property’s outdoor amenities before focusing his attention on a rubber duck wearing sunglasses in the hot tub.
“He trespassed onto their property, used their hot tub, became obsessed with their rubber duck, then stole their pool towels,” the Chatham County Police Department said in a Facebook post describing the bizarre incident.
According to police, the man remained in the hot tub for more than 10 minutes while “intensely interacting” with the toy. The unusual behavior was recorded by the home’s security cameras.
“It’s obviously not the biggest crime we’ve dealt with this month, but it has a lot of ick-factor,” the department wrote. “So, we’d like to find this guy so he doesn’t do this to someone else.”
Investigators said the man entered the backyard sometime between 2:15 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 1.
Police have not described exactly what happened during the man’s apparent fixation with the duck. However, a grainy black-and-white image from the security footage seems to show him kissing or biting the back of the toy.
Authorities also said the visitor took six bath towels, each estimated to be worth roughly $200.
The Chatham County Police Department is now asking the public to help identify the man seen in the footage.
“Anyone who recognizes the suspect in the photos or has any information about this case is asked to contact police,” the department said.
