A man faces charges following an incident where he allegedly fired at a police officer in Chicago’s Morgan Park neighborhood early Sunday morning. The unsettling episode unfolded around 1:22 a.m. on South Davol Avenue, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Police responding to the scene discovered a confrontation involving several individuals, including a 35-year-old and an 18-year-old man. In the midst of efforts to separate the two men, a gun was fired by one of the suspects, hitting both a victim and an officer’s protective vest, police reported.

In response, another officer discharged their weapon, striking the suspect. Unfortunately, the victim was inadvertently hit by this return fire, as stated by CPD officials.
The young victim, aged 18, was promptly taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center and is currently in fair condition.

Another officer returned fire, striking the suspect and accidentally striking the victim, CPD officials said.
The 18-year-old victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition.
The officer hit in the vest was taken to a hospital and was later discharged.
The 35-year-old suspect, identified by police as Darren Brewster of Chicago, was taken to Christ Hospital in fair condition. Brewster faces a count of attempted murder and home invasion among other charges.
Brewster is expected in court Tuesday for a detention hearing.
