Andre Myers, 54, has entered a not guilty plea following his arrest related to the fatal hit-and-run incident in Arlington that claimed the life of 13-year-old Genesis Webber.

In Jacksonville, Florida, the man accused of striking a young girl with his vehicle and abandoning the scene may soon face trial proceedings. Myers has been formally charged with a first-degree felony for fleeing the scene of an accident resulting in death, linked to the tragic events of September 30 on Arlington Road North.

Genesis Webber’s mother shared with First Coast News that her daughter was on her regular path home after disembarking from her after-school activity bus when the incident occurred.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle veered off the road, hitting Genesis and crashing through a fence, ultimately leaving her in a culvert. A passerby discovered her at approximately 9 p.m. that evening. Investigations indicate the accident took place shortly before 7:30 p.m.

The Sheriff’s Office report detailed that debris from the crash, including a mail item and parts from a Dodge Ram, led investigators to Myers and his damaged vehicle. Myers allegedly confessed to the authorities that he had experienced a blackout due to alcohol consumption and could not recall events between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on the night of the accident. He was subsequently taken into custody on October 2.

JSO’s police report said that a piece of mail found at the crash site, plus scattered Dodge Ram vehicle parts, led them to Myers and his damaged truck. He reportedly told JSO he had blacked out after drinking and did not remember anything from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. that night. He was arrested on Oct. 2.

JSO said Myers was also placed at the scene by a ping of his ankle monitor; He was out on bond for a crime back in June. An arrest report from June 1 shows Myers was charged with aggravated assault for chasing and trying to run over a man with his car at a car wash on Lem Turner Road.

Myers is due back in Duval County court for his first pre-trial hearing on Nov. 13.
