No injuries after suspect shoots at JSO officers from house during foot chase in Tallyrand

JSO detectives have traced the origin of a pursuit back to a traffic stop early in the morning near JAXPORT.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Late Monday night, a dramatic incident unfolded in Jacksonville’s Tallyrand area when officers from JSO came under fire during a foot pursuit. Remarkably, no injuries were reported.

According to Jordan Dowling, who leads JSO’s specialized investigations, the event kicked off around 10:55 p.m. when officers conducted a traffic stop at East 26th Street and Haines Street. The two individuals in the vehicle chose to flee on foot.

The chase led officers a short distance to the 1500 block of East 28th Street. It was there that, as Dowling described, shots were fired at the officers from a nearby house.

Fortunately, none of the officers were hit by the gunfire, and they opted not to return fire, even as at least one shooter targeted them multiple times.

Subsequently, officers surrounded the residence, demanding those inside to exit. The situation was resolved peacefully, with two individuals from the house being taken into custody. Additionally, one of the initial fleeing suspects was apprehended, while the other remains unaccounted for.

Dowling said at this time they do not believe the people in the house and those in the car were associated with each other, and that there’s no danger to the public.

There were no reports of other people, structures or vehicles hit by gunfire, Dowling said. The shooting remains under investigation.
