A Florida felon who had evaded authorities for over two years on an attempted first-degree murder charge was apprehended on Saturday after striking a police officer while attempting to escape.

The Winter Haven Public Safety Department reported that 27-year-old D’Architray L. Sapp was arrested and faced charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. Additionally, he was held accountable for three warrants, including attempted first-degree murder and firearm possession by a convicted felon.

Officers responded to an apartment complex at about 8:20 p.m. on Saturday after receiving a report that someone was at the location with a warrant.

When the officers arrived, they located Sapp, who allegedly ran into an apartment after seeing the officers.

Sapp was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest without violence.

He also faced charges for the outstanding warrants, which included attempted first-degree murder, firearm possession by a convicted felon, fleeing to elude capture, providing false information to law enforcement, driving with a suspended license, and criminal mischief.

“I am grateful that our officers came out of the encounter with this violent felon without injury”, Police Chief Vance Monroe stated. “Our team did an excellent job in ensuring Sapp was captured and incarcerated where he belongs.”
