Authorities report that a man in his mid-20s was discovered shot to death inside a residence on Boilard Drive early on Monday morning. No arrests have been made at this time.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Washington Estates neighborhood near Soutel Drive is reeling after a fatal shooting occurred early Monday morning.
According to police, the young man was found inside a home on the 5200 block of Boilard Drive shortly after 2:30 a.m. Emergency responders from Jacksonville Fire and Rescue pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has detained several individuals as they continue their investigation, but no formal arrests have been announced. Officials are still piecing together the details of what led to the shooting.
Frederick Douglas Jordan III, who has lived on Boilard Drive his entire life, expressed his disbelief upon witnessing the aftermath.
“When I arrived this morning — while taking my mom for her eye laser treatment — and saw all the police cars, my first thought was that something happened to my mom. She assured me she was fine. I couldn’t believe it,” Jordan recounted.
Jordan said his family has lived in the neighborhood for decades and he never expected something like this to happen.
“My mama been in this house since 1965. I think about my mom, to be honest with you. Will she come stay with me, but she’s not. That just makes me a little scared.”
He said the shooting has him worried for his family’s safety.
“Well I tell them people, this can happen in any neighborhood. You know, this is an older neighborhood, this is the Northside, but that don’t mean everything is bad over here, you know,” Jordan said. “It can happen in any neighborhood.”
He’s hoping JSO can quickly make an arrest so that the suspect doesn’t hurt anyone else.
JSO says investigators are actively working the case and asks anyone with information to come forward by either contacting JSO directly at its non-emergency number or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
