NYC man shot dead on bus in the Bronx, gunman flees

A tragic incident unfolded on a New York City bus Monday afternoon, resulting in the death of a passenger, according to police reports. The suspect responsible for the shooting managed to escape the scene.

The victim, a 41-year-old man, was shot in the stomach at approximately 2:30 p.m. while aboard a BX36 bus near East Tremont Avenue and White Plains Road in Parkchester, Bronx, authorities confirmed.

Emergency services transported the wounded MTA passenger to Jacobi Medical Center, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries, police stated.

Witnesses described the suspect as wearing a white t-shirt and wielding a black handgun during the attack. He was last seen fleeing south on White Plains Road and remained at large as of Monday afternoon, according to police and sources.

Investigators have yet to determine if the assailant and the victim were acquainted or what might have sparked the fatal encounter.

In the aftermath of the shooting, a blood stain lingered on the sidewalk, and law enforcement cordoned off the area around the bus with yellow crime scene tape as they conducted their investigation.

The victim was not immediately identified pending family notification.
