A glamorous influencer who tragically drowned during an Ironman event in Texas had been suffering from the flu but chose to proceed with the demanding race despite friends urging her to withdraw, according to a close acquaintance.
“She was unwell before the journey, not in good shape,” shared Luis Taveira about his dear friend, Mara Flávia, 38, who lost her life during the event held on Saturday in The Woodlands.
Taveira recounted to The Spun, a sports website, “My wife and I advised her against racing due to her weakened state, but when we spoke two days prior, she insisted she was fine,” referring to the Brazilian influencer.
“I’m still in shock over what occurred. She was battling the flu,” he lamented.
