Girl dies in Brazil after hair gets caught in pool suction system

A tragic incident occurred in Mirassol, Sao Paulo, Brazil, where a 12-year-old girl drowned after her hair became entangled in a pool suction pump, trapping her underwater for over five minutes.

Laura Pereira Camargo was enjoying a swim with friends on Friday when the accident happened, preventing her from resurfacing, as reported by the Sun.

Once she was finally released from the pump, Laura was urgently transported to a hospital in Sao Jose do Rio Preto, where she arrived in critical condition.

Despite the medical team’s relentless efforts, Laura succumbed to her injuries two days later. She suffered from multiple organ failure and complications that included bacterial pneumonia, according to the Sun.

Her funeral was planned for the following Tuesday.

This heartbreaking event follows closely on the heels of another tragedy involving a 12-year-old boy who lost his life in a similar accident. He was pulled into a hot tub filter while on a family vacation in Italy.

Matteo Brandimarti was playing in a jacuzzi at the upscale Duca di Montefeltro Hotel in Pennabilli on Easter Sunday morning when his leg got dragged into a filter of the tub, trapping him for several minutes.

Hotel staffers shut off the main power supply to the jacuzzi and immediately attempted life-saving measures.
