A tragic shooting claimed the life of a teenager inside a public housing complex in Brooklyn on Monday evening, police have confirmed.
Officers were dispatched to the scene around 6 p.m. at a NYCHA building located on Avenue X, between Nostrand Avenue and Batchelder Street, in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood, according to the NYPD.
Upon arrival, police found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his chest, lying unconscious in the Sheepshead Bay Houses building.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, authorities reported.
As of late Monday night, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting. The investigation is still underway as police work to identify those responsible.
