One dead in freak Perris skydiving accident in California

A tragic skydiving accident in Perris, California, has resulted in one fatality and left another individual in critical condition.

Emergency services were dispatched to the 600 block of East Ellis Avenue shortly before 2 p.m. following reports of a severe injury. Upon arrival, one person was declared deceased at the location, while another was urgently taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. A third individual involved in the incident escaped unharmed, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The skydivers were located on opposite sides of the 215 freeway, one on the east and the other on the west.

The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed, but authorities confirmed he was a male.

Dan Brodsky-Chenfeld, the manager of Skydive Perris, informed the Los Angeles Times that the three individuals were friends visiting from abroad. He described them as “experienced” skydivers and revealed that the accident occurred due to a mid-air collision between two of them.

“A comprehensive investigation is underway,” Brodsky-Chenfeld stated. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and everyone impacted by this tragedy.”

Video captured by OnScene.TV show the aftermath of the incident, where sheriff’s deputies can be seen talking to a man wearing a Skydive Perris T-shirt.

This is not the first freak accident for Skydive Perris, which brands itself as the “West Coast’s largest and most trusted skydiving center.”

A California skydiving student was killed in 2024 with her diving instructor when the pair hit a freak “dust devil.” That same month, there appeared to be another skydiving accident in Perris with a woman from Maine.

Just last year, there was a “landing accident” that resulted in a death of a 76-year-old skydiver. There was also a June 2025 incident where a diver suffered serious injuries in a jump over Perris Valley Airport.
