The body of David Maland, a U.S. Border Patrol agent killed in a shooting 20 miles south of the Canadian border, was transported to a funeral home in Burlington. Law enforcement vehicles formed a long procession behind the hearse, while Vermont State Troopers stood in a solemn tribute.

A woman charged with the murder of a U.S. Border Patrol agent appeared in court on Friday, entering a plea of not guilty to murder and other allegations. She is allegedly connected to a cult with a history of multiple killings nationwide, and the prosecution intends to pursue the death penalty.

Teresa Youngblut, 21, faced the charges in federal court in Burlington, Vermont, for the shooting that occurred during a traffic stop in January. A grand jury indicted Youngblut on charges of murdering Agent David Maland, assaulting two other agents with a deadly weapon, and other firearm-related crimes.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi has authorized seeking the death penalty for the case, as the acting U.S. attorney for Vermont announced last month their intent to pursue capital punishment.
