Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-WY) moved significantly closer to claiming Wyoming’s next U.S. Senate seat after cruising to victory in Tuesday’s Republican primary. Backed by President Donald Trump, Hageman secured a commanding 63 percent of the vote.
Hageman first arrived in Congress in 2022 after a landslide win over Liz Cheney, a race that elevated her national profile. Since then, she has built her political brand around confronting what she describes as federal overreach while championing Wyoming’s water rights, land use priorities, and private property protections.
Her primary win came against a four-candidate field that included Jill Edwards, John Holtz, Sam Mead, and Jimmy Skovgard.
Trump threw his support behind Hageman soon after Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) announced late last year that she would not seek another term.
“I know Harriet well, and she is a TOTAL WINNER! Harriet has ALWAYS delivered for Wyoming, and will continue to do so in the United States Senate,” Trump wrote on Truth Social in December 2025.
Hageman’s 2022 showdown with Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) drove record turnout in the Wyoming Republican primary, ending with Hageman defeating Cheney by 37 points. She later told – News that Cheney’s loss stemmed from her focus on President Trump instead of the issues Hageman said mattered most to Wyoming voters, including inflation, illegal immigration, and energy policy.
Wyoming has not sent a Democrat to the U.S. Senate since 1970.
