Trump tears into lefty Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker after bloody weekend in Chicago leaves 5 dead, 22 injured

President Trump sharply criticized Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker on Sunday over escalating violence in Chicago, after a deadly weekend in the Windy City left at least five people dead and 22 others injured, according to reports.

Trump’s pointed remarks followed a late-Friday shooting in which at least 12 people were wounded when two gunmen opened fire on a crowd gathered for a Juneteenth celebration on Chicago’s South Side, police said.

The drive-by attack happened shortly after 11 p.m. in the Princeton Park neighborhood, where two people inside a red SUV fired into the crowd before fleeing the scene, according to authorities.

Officers who arrived at the scene found a 32-year-old woman suffering from two gunshot wounds to the back and a 44-year-old man whose back had been grazed by four bullets. Both were taken to nearby hospitals in stable condition, police said.

Among the other victims were a 17-year-old boy and a 22-year-old woman, each shot in the thigh, as well as a 32-year-old man who was struck in the head, according to police.

Police said only one victim — a 26-year-old man shot in the body — was listed in critical condition after being hospitalized.

The gunmen remained at large Sunday morning as Trump took aim at Pritzker, accusing him of failing to rein in the violence.

“Lots of Killing going on in Chicago…Why isn’t Governor Pritzker calling me for help?” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“I could make Chicago a safe City in ONE MONTH, in ONE YEAR, it would be one of the safest!!!” the president continued, and touted his administration’s crackdown on violence in Washington D.C.

Murders are up 8% so far this year compared to 2025 — which was a record low year for killings. Homicides are still down by 35% compared to four years ago, according to Chicago Police Department crime stats.

The Juneteenth bloodshed was just one of several deadly shootings that rocked the Windy City this weekend.

Hours earlier, a 29-year-old man was killed and an elderly bystander wounded in another drive-by shooting in the West Pullman area, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Three more men – ages 33, 34 and 50 – were killed in separate shootings across the city Friday night.

And early Saturday, a 37-year-old man was fatally shot in the neck in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood.

At least 10 other people were wounded in shootings citywide during a chaotic 24-hour stretch from Friday night to Saturday night, according to the outlet.

Pritzker — who posted on X about Father’s Day Sunday, but did not acknowledge the weekend violence in Chicago — did not respond to The Post’s request for comment Sunday.
