More Lies: D.C. Quietly Settles With Police Sergeant Who Sued Over Falsified Crime Stats

There was significant uproar from Democrats when President Donald Trump made the decision to take control of the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) following another brutal act of violence—the vicious beating of former DOGE staffer “Big Balls” Edward Coristine in early August during his attempt to prevent a carjacking by a group of teenagers.

The mainstream media, criticized for perceived bias, alongside crime-tolerant progressive Democrats, quickly voiced their strong opposition to Trump’s decisive move, asserting that crime rates were falling in the capital. However, Trump and others reminded notable figures like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) that such claims were questionable, suggesting a nighttime stroll through the capital could challenge those beliefs.

Good luck with that.

Predictably, this progressive narrative soon unraveled. Even reporters confessed to being victims of muggings and expressed their own fears. Concurrently, as highlighted by RedState’s Bonchie, a D.C. police commander was recently suspended for allegedly manipulating data to suggest a crime reduction—casting further doubt on the official statistics.

But it gets worse.

On Thursday, the Washington Free Beacon reported that the District had just settled a lawsuit that described even more fibbing about crime stats:

The District of Columbia discreetly settled a lawsuit with a sergeant who accused Metropolitan Police Department leaders of reclassifying crimes to artificially lower crime statistics, per court records reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon. Internal MPD communications, including emails, depositions, and phone call transcripts, revealed that police leadership instructed officers to downgrade the categorization of offenses such as thefts, knife attacks, and violent assaults.

The claim was serious and, unfortunately, quite plausible, given the contrast between observed realities versus the official narratives. If you’ve ever lived in a major American city, this discrepancy may resonate all too well.

Former MPD sergeant Charlotte Djossou sued the department in 2020, alleging that police leadership punished her for speaking out against the scheme. Djossou, who joined the force after serving honorably in Iraq, accused MPD brass of attempting to “distort crime statistics” by “downgrading a number of felonies to misdemeanors, so that there will be ‘fewer’ felonies in the statistics.” She also provided records showing that police leaders explicitly instructed their subordinates to underclassify certain instances of theft to keep them out of the crime stats the city reports to the public.

The bad news just keeps coming for the left. As our Sister Toldjah reported, despite their protestations, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and the City Council have long been aware of the crisis.
