Margaret Huang, the former leader of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), has been instrumental in transforming the organization’s image from a renowned civil rights institution into what some critics describe as a “partisan smear machine.”
The SPLC faced serious allegations on Tuesday when the Justice Department charged them with funneling millions to hate group members, ostensibly to act as informants and incite racial animosity.
Huang, who earned $522,000 in 2023, assumed the roles of President and CEO in 2020, succeeding co-founder Morris Seligman Dees Jr. His departure followed allegations of sexual misconduct and accusations of racial discrimination within the organization.
