Vice President JD Vance stopped short of confirming a 2028 White House run during an appearance on “My View with Lara Trump” Saturday night, but he admitted the possibility—highlighting that if he executes his duties well, “the politics will figure itself out.”
Vance, whose resilience in overcoming an upbringing marked by family turmoil and economic hardship captured the nation’s attention, said he “doesn’t like thinking about” a potential presidential bid, emphasizing that his focus remains on his current responsibilities.
“If we do a good job in 2025 and 2026, then we can discuss the politics in 2027,” Vance stated. “I really believe the American people are so tired of individuals who are already considering the next role, merely seven months into the current one.”
The second-in-command added if he ends up running, he knows he will have to work for it.
“There are plenty of great people,” Vance acknowledged. “If I do decide to run, it won’t be handed to me—either within the Republican side or nationally. I’m just going to keep working hard. … [This] might be the most important job I ever have, aside from being a father to those three beautiful kids. So, I’m going to aim to do my best, and I think if I achieve that, the politics will sort itself out.”
When asked specifically about potential 2028 Democratic candidates, he noted most of them “obviously have very bad records.”
Vance primarily concentrated on discussing his current ticket, lauding President Donald Trump’s relentless work ethic and confident leadership style, noting that the president “doesn’t have an off switch.”
“Sometimes, the president will ring you at 12:30 or 2 a.m., and then again at 6 a.m. about a completely different matter,” Vance recounted. “It’s like, ‘Mr. President, did you sleep at all last night?’ … What has made this experience so enjoyable is the president constantly saying, ‘JD, go do this,’ or ‘JD, go talk to these leaders about this particular issue.’ That capacity to delegate and trust his team has been truly remarkable.”
