Vietti Food Group of Nashville, Tennessee, is recalling 4,515 cases of its Yellowstone brown sugar molasses baked beans.

The company has issued a recall notice on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website, indicating that the 15 oz cans should be returned due to “undeclared soy” content.

Consumers are advised that those with soy allergies or severe sensitivity may face serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the affected product.

However, the FDA confirmed that, “to date, no illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported” by consumers.

The product can be identified by its Lot Code: Best if Used By Feb 17, 2028. This code is located on the bottom of each can.

Shoppers who have bought the affected canned beans have been urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The recalled item has been distributed to stores including Walmart and is available in several states: Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.

A spokesperson for the Vietti Food Group confirmed today, “We are not aware of any adverse health events from this issue.”

Soy allergy can be severe and life-threatening if not treated promptly.

According to John Hopkins Medicine, a soy allergy is the body’s abnormal response to the proteins found in soy – from soybeans, a type of legume.

The medical experts advised, “Foods that don’t contain soy could be contaminated during manufacturing.

“The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) is a law that requires U.S. packaged foods to state clearly on the label if they contain soy or a soy-based ingredient.”

About 0.4% of children in the U.S. have a soy allergy, reported Kids with Food Allergies.

The allergy is more common in babies and young children than it is in older children, teenagers, and adults.

Vietti Food Group can be contacted about consumer queries at (513) 682-2474 Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm CT or email recall@zwanfood.com.

The baked beans were inspired by the popular television series, Yellowstone, reported Fox News.

Yellowstone brown sugar molasses baked beans are described as being “infused with the deep, caramelized notes of molasses and the bold taste of onion and garlic.”

In 2023, FoodStory Brands and Paramount Consumer Products announced a Yellowstone line of Western cuisine, “which brings the hit television series to life in American kitchens.”

Paramount is the parent company that airs the hit show featuring dramas surrounding a large Montana ranch.

“The line embodies the rustic, authentic experience of the Yellowstone universe and includes premium coffee, seasonings and rubs, meat snacks, and Angus beef chilli,” they said at that time.

Yellowstone products are available at Walmart, Kroger, Amazon, H.E.B., and in select Safeway and Albertsons stores.

An allergy alert has been issued on undeclared soy in cans of baked beans

Vietti Food Group of Nashville, Tennessee, is recalling 4,515 cases of its Yellowstone brown sugar molasses baked beans (15 oz.), said the FDA.

The recall is due to the presence of undeclared soy.

Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy risk serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.

The product can be identified by its Lot Code: Best if Used By Feb 17, 2028.

Consumers who have bought the affected product have been urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The recalled product has been distributed throughout 23 states: Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.

The recall – published by the FDA on May 5 – was issued several days after shoppers were warned about glass fragments in bread rolls made by Upper Crust Bakery LP, a Maryland-based manufacturer.

The service indicated the product is sold in six states.

And this week saw Coca-Cola cans recalled in an FDA alert about the beverage being contaminated with plastic.

Americans have also been warned to check their pantries after tomatoes were recalled in 14 states due to the risk that they could be contaminated with Salmonella.
