Denali's sled dog puppies debut on live Puppy Cam

Five fluffy bundles of joy are ready to steal your heart.

DENALI PARK, Alaska — Storm, Squall, Graupel, Fog, and Dew have become the latest stars in Denali National Park and Preserve, and they are ready for their spotlight.

Can’t make the trip to Alaska to see these adorable pups in person? No worries. The sled dog puppies, born on May 3, will soon achieve internet fame through the park’s popular Puppy Cam, which went live on Friday.

The Weather Litter, as the park officials have named the five pups, received their weather-themed names to commemorate a historic milestone. In 2024, the Denali Sled Dog Kennels and the National Weather Service will celebrate 100 years of weather data collection by the park’s mushing rangers.

“These names celebrate the diverse and sometimes dramatic ways water influences our weather,” park officials said.

The puppies’ proud parents are Merlyn, a Denali Kennels sled dog born in the park in 2021, and Drumlin, who hails from a respected partner kennel in Minchumina, Alaska.

For a guaranteed dose of cuteness, tune in at feeding times, which are scheduled for 11:45 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. Alaska Standard Time (3:45 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. ET).

For 103 years, Denali Sled Dog Kennels has held the distinction of being the only sled dog operation within the National Park Service and ranks among the country’s oldest kennels. Since 1922, human and canine rangers have teamed up to patrol and preserve the park’s 2 million acres of designated wilderness.

These aren’t just pretty faces — Denali’s dogs remain authentic working animals who run patrols and haul materials across the vast Alaskan landscape. The park breeds or adopts a litter of sled dog puppies each year and chooses a theme for their names.

If you’re lucky enough to travel to the national park, visitors can catch the puppies in action during daily kennel visits and free sled dog programs.
