Disney and Pixar have unveiled a fresh trailer for their much-anticipated “Toy Story 5.”
Returning to lend their voices to the beloved characters are Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack, who bring to life Woody, Buzz, and Jessie once more.
Joining the ensemble cast, Greta Lee voices the character Lilypad, while Conan O’Brien takes on the role of the tech-savvy Smarty Pants. Tony Hale returns as the fan-favorite Forky, and Craig Robinson joins as Atlas, a GPS-equipped hippo toy. Shelby Rabara voices the camera toy Snappy, Scarlett Spears plays the young Bonnie, Mykal-Michelle Harris takes on the character Blaze, and Matty Matheson is Dr. Nutcase, a toy wary of technology.
John Ratzenberger continues to voice Hamm, the witty piggybank. Wallace Shawn reprises his role as Rex, the dinosaur toy, while Blake Clark returns as Slinky Dog. Jeff Bergman and Anna Vocino voice Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head. Annie Potts brings back Bo Peep, Bonnie Hunt voices Dolly, and Melissa Villaseñor is Karen Beverly, Bonnie’s homemade creation. John Hopkins returns as Mr. Pricklepants, Kristen Schaal as the triceratops Trixie, Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl, and Keanu Reeves as the Canadian daredevil Duke Caboom.
The plot, as described in the official synopsis, sees the toys facing new challenges as Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, and their friends encounter Lilypad, a new tablet device voiced by Greta Lee. Lilypad introduces her own disruptive notions about what’s best for their owner, Bonnie, leaving the toys to wonder if playtime will ever be the same again.
In the trailer, which you can watch in the video above, Jessie confronts Lilypad, saying, “Me and the toys have been working all summer to try and get Bonnie to make friends, but then YOU had to ruin it.”
She puts a call out to Woody. He admits, “Toys are for play but tech is for everything” as Jessie laments that she’s losing Bonnie to “this device.”
Later in the trailer, Buzz says, “Our mission on this planet is to make a child happy!”
“Toy Story 5” is directed by Academy Award winner Andrew Stanton, co-directed by Kenna Harris and produced by Lindsey Collins.
And Randy Newman is back to score his fifth “Toy Story” feature.
“Toy Story 5” is in theaters June 19.
