Cracker Barrel has been facing a lot of negative response on social media for the changes they have made to their brand.
As previously reported, the company altered their iconic logo by removing the emblematic man and barrel that had been integral to their identity. Additionally, they shifted the restaurant style from “down-home, country nostalgia” to what my colleague Jennifer Oliver O’Connell described as a “college cafeteria” style, replacing some of the signature indoor kitsch with more mundane decor.
But their CEO insisted that people liked the changes, claiming the response was “overwhelmingly positive.”
Cracker Barrel’s stock experienced a significant drop, plunging by 12 percent on Thursday as criticism intensified. Furthermore, this “transformation” came with a hefty price tag of $700 million. It did not seem like a prudent investment of those funds.
