Ventana Grill in Pismo Beach closing permanently, leaving wedding couples scrambling

For couples planning a coastal California wedding, celebration plans have suddenly given way to uncertainty at one of Pismo Beach’s best-known oceanfront venues.

Ventana Grill in Pismo Beach is set to close permanently on Sept. 12, with its final reservations ending at 8 p.m. that evening.

Employees confirmed the restaurant’s closure but gave few details about why the popular dining spot and wedding venue is shutting its doors so abruptly, according to The San Luis Obispo Tribune.

For couples who already had weddings scheduled at Ventana Grill, the timeline is now especially tight.

One Nextdoor user said Ventana coordinators had begun working with couples holding upcoming wedding reservations to help arrange alternate accommodations.

The restaurant’s website also appeared to be offline as of Saturday.

OpenTable showed no available reservations past the Sept. 12 closing date.

The sudden shutdown marks the end of a long run for the restaurant at 2575 Price St., a destination for locals, tourists and wedding parties drawn to its cliffside setting and sweeping 180-degree views of the Pismo Beach coastline.

Ventana Grill opened in April 2010 following a lengthy renovation of the former Pelican Point restaurant.

The makeover brought a new name and a revamped space built around its panoramic coastal views.

The venue even had its own bizarre tourist attraction, the infamous “staircase to nowhere,” an outdoor spiral staircase that went up without leading anywhere.

Its kitchen also had some serious local star power.

Former executive chef Ricardo Ortega served up fresh cuisine inspired by Latin America and California.

He was also the chef at Custom House in Avila Beach.
