BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – In a tragic turn of events Friday night, a man fleeing law enforcement in Titusville met a fatal end after his vehicle collided with a tree, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident unfolded around 8 p.m. on Barna Avenue, not far from Nickalaus Drive, according to information from state troopers.

A report from the FHP revealed that the individual involved was a 35-year-old local from Titusville. This man was behind the wheel of a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu, evading Titusville police as he sped south on Barna Avenue towards Nickalaus Drive. His attempt to escape ended violently when the vehicle slammed into a palm tree, a fence, and a sign along the way.

Complications during the chase arose after the Malibu had been “stop-sticked,” causing it to veer on and off the road in a perilous manner, as detailed in the crash report.

Emergency responders rushed the driver to a nearby hospital, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead. Authorities have yet to determine if he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues its investigation into this unfortunate incident, seeking to piece together all aspects of the night’s events.

News 6 has reached out to Titusville police. Check back here for updates.
