A 37-year-old man has been charged after a car allegedly crashed into a school bus while attempting to dodge police before driving into officers in Geelong.
Police first spotted the Kia Optima that was allegedly stolen from NSW at about 3.40pm on Thursday near the intersection of Princes Highway and Roebuck Street in Newtown.

In a dramatic sequence of events, police efforts to intercept a reportedly stolen vehicle culminated in a tense foot chase and subsequent arrests. The situation was closely monitored from above by the Air Wing, ensuring the authorities had a clear view of the unfolding incident.

The car allegedly attempted to flee the scene before backing into a school bus.

The chase took a perilous turn when the suspect vehicle collided forcefully with another car, a maneuver commonly referred to as a T-bone crash. This sudden impact resulted in the two suspects abandoning their vehicle in an attempt to escape on foot.

The Kia then allegedly drove at police, before an officer discharged their firearm.

Swift action from the police led to a pursuit, and the duo was apprehended shortly thereafter. Fortunately, the occupants of a nearby bus, who witnessed the incident, were unharmed amidst the chaos.

However, the collision did not leave everyone unscathed. The woman driving the civilian vehicle that was struck was transported to the hospital, albeit with minor injuries.

Following this reckless chain of events, the driver of the allegedly stolen car now faces a slew of charges, as authorities continue to process the incident and its legal repercussions.

Today, the driver of the allegedly stolen vehicle was charged with a litany of offences.

The 37-year-old with no fixed address was charged with intentionally exposing an emergency worker to risk by driving, two counts of conduct endangering serious injury, driving dangerously, criminal damage, theft of a motor vehicle and bringing stolen goods into Victoria.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Geelong Magistrates Court on Monday.

Yesterday, detectives charged the 43-year-old female passenger, also from NSW, with handling stolen goods.

She was bailed to appear at Geelong Magistrates Court on March 31.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing with Professional Standards Command oversight, as is standard practice when a police firearm is discharged.
