Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have asked Bayer Leverkusen about the availability of defender Jonathan Tah, according to reports in Germany.

Tah has been one of the stars of Leverkusen’s incredible season so far, helping them establish a 10-point lead atop the Bundesliga table and maintain their status as the last remaining unbeaten team in Europe.

Many of Leverkusen’s key players, as well as head coach Xabi Alonso, have been linked with exits this summer, and Tah’s name has cropped up in the German media again.

BILD report Chelsea and Spurs have ‘knocked’ on Leverkusen’s door regarding Tah, and they could be tempted into a sale.

Tottenham have made their intentions of signing another centre-back this summer known, with head coach Ange Postecoglou revealing his desire to recruit another defender recently.

“If you’re saying, ‘Is it an area we can strengthen?’, yes it’s an area we will probably look at,” he said regarding the centre-back position.

“With all these things, it’s about trying to strengthen the group as much as anything else. If you think about when I first arrived, we had maybe six or seven centre-backs at the club. So it’s not just numbers. It’s more about the ability of those players to play the football we want and to fit in to what we’re trying to build here.

“I think it is an area of the park we will look to strengthen, but I think we’ll look to strengthen all areas of the park come the end of the season. That is planning that’s already underway, and other people are in charge of it at the moment.”

Tottenham tried to sign Tah’s teammate, Edmond Tapsoba, from Leverkusen last summer before switching their attentions to Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven instead.

Meanwhile, 90min revealed last month Chelsea’s top centre-back target for the summer is Sporting CP’s Ousmane Diomande, while Tah also has admirers at Manchester United.
