Jamie Carragher has labelled Sadio Mane his favourite Liverpool player and warned the forward not to join Bayern Munich.

Since the turn of the year, Mane has been in top form for the Reds and scored the side’s winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

The Senegalese forward’s contract runs out next year and he has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich this summer.

However, Carragher, the former Liverpool defender, does not want Mane to leave his old club as he believes the 30-year-old is their best player to watch.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: ‘Sadio Mane’s my favourite player. He’s the one I watch. Even though Mo Salah’s numbers…he wins the golden boot. There’s just something about Mane.

‘He’s sacrificed himself. The shift he puts in. Huge fan of Sadio Mane. I’m sure he will be going nowhere. As I’m not going to let him go to Bayern Munich. He’ll have me to deal with.’

In 2022 so far, Mane has scored 16 goals for Liverpool which has aided the club’s bid for a quadruple.

However, having spent the majority of his career playing on the left-wing, Mane has featured as a centre-forward in recent months as Jurgen Klopp tries to fit in new signing Luiz Diaz.

His deployment in a central role means he has now played in all positions across the front three for the Reds.

Carragher believes Mane’s versatility sets him apart from Liverpool’s other attackers; Mohamed Salah, Diaz, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino.

He added: ‘I love him, I absolutely love him to bits and not just because he’s a great player and what he’s done for Liverpool

‘He initially came in on the right wing, then Salah came in so he had to move to the left, he’s fantastic.

‘Diaz comes in so he moves to centre-forward. He’s always moving for someone else, but his performance doesn’t drop, he still produces.

‘All of those five attacking players are great players, but to ask them to play a different position in that front three, they wouldn’t be at their best.

‘But it doesn’t seem to matter where he plays in that front three, you get the same out of him.’
