La Liga president Javier Tebas has urged Mason Greenwood to leave Manchester United and remain in Spain beyond this season.

Greenwood joined Getafe on loan last summer after charges of rape and assault against him were dropped, and while he had been expected to leave United permanently this summer, new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe confirmed a new decision on the situation would be made now he is in control of football operations at Old Trafford.

Getafe president Angel Torres recently claimed Greenwood is “crazy” about the idea of staying with the club, while Barcelona have been touted as potential suitors if the 22-year-old is made available this summer.

Tebas is keen for a Spanish side to strike a deal with Greenwood as he believes the forward, who has racked up five goals and five assists in La Liga this season, is a benefit to the division.

“I’m a lawyer. For someone that has come out of a legal case innocent, there’s nothing to say,” he said at the Financial Times business of football summit.

“I think it’s good because he’s another great player. Maybe the circumstances have made it easier for him to come, but he’s a great player and I have got no other comments to make.

“He’s doing really well at Getafe as a player and I hope he continues to be successful and continues to stay in Spanish football, because that’s always good for us. When someone isn’t condemned, what should we have done? This is what courts exist for. It is not up to me to know his case in detail. He is just another player.”

Tebas also refused to be drawn on La Liga’s investigation into Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham, who is accused of calling the Man Utd loanee a ‘rapist’ during the meeting between the two sides last month.

“La Liga investigated Bellingham and let’s see what happens,” he said. “It is not the first time we have done a lip-reading investigation and maybe he didn’t say what we think.”
