Roy Keane believes one of Manchester United’s summer signings has been the biggest disappointment of the season so far.

United spent big in the summer as they looked to build on finishing third last term, but it has not paid dividends yet as they find themselves down in sixth after losing six of their opening 15 league games.

They are also on the brink of Champions League elimination, heaping the pressure on manager Erik ten Hag.

Keane told the Stick to Football podcast: ‘The biggest disappointment has to be Andre Onana.

Jamie Carragher thinks Onana has not been an improvement on David de Gea

‘I think Manchester United were right to get rid of David de Gea, but for the club to have brought someone else in and for him to be struggling…’

Jamie Carragher has also been unimpressed by Onana since he came into the side at Old Trafford.

The Cameroonian played a key role in Inter Milan’s run to the Champions League final last season and was expected to take United to a new level having previously been hailed for his ability to play out from the back.

But Carragher feels Onana and his Arsenal counterpart David Raya have both failed to perform at a higher level than their predecessors De Gea and Aaron Ramsdale.

Raya was at fault for two goals in Arsenal’s latest game against Luton on Tuesday, and the Gunners needed a last-gasp Declan Rice header to rescue a 4-3 win at Kenilworth Road.

Carragher has suggested United and Arsenal may actually be worse off with their current goalkeepers.

‘The biggest disappointments in the Premier League so far this season would be the two goalkeepers at Manchester United and Arsenal (Onana and Raya),’ Carragher added.

‘They’ve been quite poor after coming in as “improvements” from the previous keepers, and it’s almost stayed the same or even gone backwards with them coming in.’

While Keane and Carragher both singled out Onana for criticism, Ian Wright raised concerns about Ten Hag and his failure to develop a clear style of play at United.

Wright compared the Dutchman to Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou, insisting that Ten Hag should have found a way to dominate matches over the last 18 months like the Australian has in north London in a much shorter period of time.

‘When I look at the way that Manchester United are playing, you only have to look at the way that Ange [Postecoglou] and the way he’s changed things so quickly [at Spurs], and a pattern of playing and how they want to do certain things – I still haven’t seen that with United at this point in time,’ Wright said.

‘He’s been there 18 months – we should see a certain way that Man United are playing, they should be controlling and winning games now.’
