It can be hard to keep up with all things Kylian Mbappe in the modern age.

Is he staying at Paris Saint-Germain? Is he joining Real Madrid? Will the love triangle between the French World Cup winner and the two European giants ever end?

Well, the finishing line to one of the modern game’s most obvious yet protracted transfer sagas is in sight. Mbappe has made his decision, and it’s one that will leave PSG fans heartbroken.

The 25-year-old has informed Nasser Al-Khelaifi he plans to leave Paris this summer, having previously promised the club president he would reveal his decision to him personally once it was made.

The saga hasn’t been captivating enough for some, mind. You can’t please everyone, after all.

Others just got straight to the point. Mbappe has long flirted with the idea of joining Real Madrid, and while no final decision has been made on his future, 90min understands the former Monaco star has a proposal from Los Blancos worth similar to the terms he was offered previously in 2021.

Mbappe’s arrival could usher in a new era of dominance at the Bernabeu. Jude Bellingham has emerged as the favourite for the next Ballon d’Or since moving to Spain, while the electric Vinicius Junior enhances his world-class status year upon year.

Florentino Perez and Carlo Ancelotti have already cultivated quite the squad, but Mbappe’s arrival would take the roster into Galactico territory.

All this barely a day after Mbappe led PSG to a 2-0 win in the first leg of their last-16 tie with Real Sociedad in the Champions League. The French giants have long struggled in Europe’s premier club competition despite their lucrative spending over the past 15 years, while Madrid are renowned as serial winners on the continent.

The closest Mbappe came to European glory with PSG was in 2020 when they were defeated finalists to winners Bayern Munich. They look unlikely to test Europe’s top sides this year, but the France captain would be revered forever in the nation’s capital if he led the club to a first ever UCL crown, having long been their all-time leading goalscorer.
