JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Authorities in Johnson City have apprehended a local man on charges of aggravated child abuse and neglect, following the emergence of home security footage allegedly showing him mistreating a juvenile on two distinct occasions. This evidence was handed over to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO).

According to an official WCSO statement, 30-year-old Marcus Stewart Wright was arrested on Tuesday after deputies secured a warrant. The arrest was facilitated with the assistance of Sullivan County deputies who helped locate Wright.

Details from a criminal affidavit, as reported by News Channel 11, reveal that a concerned citizen reached out to a WCSO deputy after receiving residential security footage from a witness. This footage reportedly shows a man, identified by the complainant as Wright, with a juvenile in an incident allegedly occurring in July.

The affidavit notes that the concerned citizen submitted the footage to the WCSO on behalf of the witness, and it has since been entered into evidence.

Shortly after sharing the initial video, the citizen informed the authorities of additional footage depicting another separate incident of alleged abuse, sent by the same witness.

The affidavit indicates that the second alleged abuse incident occurred around October 7. This video, like the first, has been included in the evidence collected for the case.

According to the affidavit, a warrant was then obtained for Wright “due to the totality of these circumstances.”

Wright was being held in the Washington County Detention Center on a $26,000 bond as of Wednesday.
