LONDON – Joining the ranks of Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, and Paddington, Bridget Jones has secured her place among the iconic figures immortalized in London’s renowned Leicester Square.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the first “Bridget Jones” film, a new bronze statue of the beloved romantic comedy character was unveiled on Monday.

Renée Zellweger, who famously portrayed Bridget Jones across four films since the debut of “Bridget Jones’ Diary” in 2001, was present at the ceremony. She was accompanied by Helen Fielding, the author whose novels served as the foundation for the popular film series.

The statue captures Zellweger’s character in a mini skirt, holding a diary and pen, and is the latest feature in the “Scenes in the Square” trail. Leicester Square, known for hosting numerous international film premieres, serves as the backdrop for this cinematic tribute.

Launched in 2020 to honor a century of film history, the attraction also includes statues of other beloved characters such as Mr. Bean, Bugs Bunny, Laurel and Hardy, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

The franchise’s fourth installment, “Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy,” hit theaters earlier this year, continuing the legacy of this endearing character.
