Armed suspect barricades himself with hostage in Beverly Hills

After a tense nine-hour standoff with law enforcement, a gunman was apprehended in a high-profile Beverly Hills area, having allegedly held a woman hostage.

The Beverly Hills Police Department revealed to the California Post that an automated license plate reader identified a pickup truck linked to a suspect wanted for the attempted murder of a sheriff’s deputy.

The suspect reportedly attempted to run down a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy early Sunday morning around 3 a.m. at the intersection of Hawthorne Boulevard and West 104th Street near Inglewood, according to the sheriff’s department.

Authorities initiated a chase when the suspect’s vehicle was detected by license plate readers at 1:30 p.m.

The chase culminated in a standoff at Robertson Boulevard and Burton Way, where the suspect allegedly took a woman hostage and barricaded themselves inside a vehicle, as reported to the Post by police.

By 11 p.m., the woman was safely released, and the suspect was subsequently taken into custody. Fortunately, the deputy involved in the initial incident was unharmed.

As of Monday morning, the sheriff’s department could not be reached to confirm whether the man in custody has been formally charged.

The relationship between the suspect and the hostage was not immediately clear. No additional details about the hostage have been released.
