Gaming keyboards have picked up plenty of flash over the years, from customizable RGB lighting to dedicated dials and even tiny built-in displays. But the core feel has long centered on the familiar mechanical switch. That standard is starting to shift as more companies embrace adjustable optical switches, which offer deeper customization and quicker inputs. One notable deal right now is Razer’s Huntsman V3 Pro TKL, a compact wired gaming keyboard currently available at Amazon for $124.99, down from its usual $159.99 price.
Instead of simply registering a press at a fixed point, optical switches continuously track how far each key has been pushed. That unlocks features traditional mechanical keyboards generally can’t match. Players can fine-tune the actuation point for individual keys, setting it as shallow as 0.1mm for extremely sensitive inputs or as deep as 4mm for commands they want to avoid triggering by mistake. The switches can also reset before fully returning to the top, making rapid repeated keystrokes feel faster and more responsive.
Razer also includes a feature called “Snap Tap,” similar to input-priority tools found on some other optical gaming keyboards. It lets the keyboard favor one key press over another, which can help when quickly alternating between movement keys while strafing in a shooter. The setting is disabled out of the box and is not allowed in certain competitive games, including Counter-Strike 2, but users can enable it directly on the keyboard or through the Razer Synapse software.
