Yesterday (May 19th, 2022), Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service released the trailer for a forthcoming rom-com with child stars Dylan Sprouse and Sarah Hyland.
My Fake Boyfriend is set to debut on Prime Video’s platform next month (June, 2022), and the plot isn’t what you think it is.
The movie stars both Sprouse (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody) and Hyland (Modern Family), as well as Keiynan Lonsdale (Love Simon, The Flash) as a trio of friends who want the best for one another.
My Fake Boyfriend follows Andrew (Lonsdale), a man who is still lusting after his toxic ex-boyfriend. His chaotic friends (Sprouse and Hyland) decide to help him out, by thinking up a crazy plan to get Andrew over his ex.
In an attempt to boost his confidence and get him over the hurdle into dating life, the loved-up duo create a fake boyfriend for Andrew on social media, called Christiano. However, their plan goes wrong when their fake man becomes an internet phenomenon.
Christiano becomes more of a problem than anything else, however, especially since Andrew now seems to be falling for the man of his dreams – a real one at that.
This leaves the sneaky duo no choice but to try and get rid of Christiano, which may be easier said than done; they must also aid Andrew in getting the man of his dreams, but can they do so without it getting too messy?
The trailer shows Sprouse’s character getting a little too attached to his creation, as the time comes where Christiano must be deleted. We also see Andrew navigate the dating life, and slowly fall in love.
Could everything work out for Andrew, or will Christiano become a huge problem?
My Fake Boyfriend will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on June 17th, 2022.
I don’t usually keep my eye on upcoming rom-coms, but this one looks like a genuinely good watch.
On seeing the title for the film, I assumed it would be a cliché about two people pretending to be in a relationship until they fall in love for real, but I’m glad this isn’t the case.
My Fake Boyfriend seems like a feel-good comedy with some deep emotion thrown in without being too heavy; I’m definitely excited to watch.
