A “BODY” has been seen in the search for a “high risk” 16-year-old boy who went missing on Saturday.

Athrun, who is autistic, was last seen close to a boating lake and playpark at the West Shore Beach in Llandudno, Wales, on May 10.

The teen was “wearing blue and white patterned swim shorts” when he vanished.

An earlier appeal had posted an image of Athrun wearing ear defenders but police confirmed he was not wearing them when he went missing.

Police mounted an “extensive” search involving teams of officers, search and rescue dogs and helicopters.

Efforts were renewed yesterday around 7pm following a “potential sighting of a body” in the sea near Llandudno, as reported by the National Police Air Service during air searches.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: “There will continue to be an increased emergency service presence in the area throughout the evening.

“Whilst work is ongoing to try and locate and recover the body, Athrun’s family have been informed and are being supported by officers.”

Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan expressed: “While I appreciate the community’s continued support and concern, I want to remind the public that this is an extremely distressing situation for the family.

“Speculation on social media does not assist our investigation and is disrespectful towards the family members during this incredibly challenging time.

“Multi-agency searches will continue into the night following this evening’s sighting and I would ask for members of the public not to gather on the beach.”
