A small aircraft made an unexpected crash landing on the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in central Florida on Monday evening.

According to officials, the plane experienced an engine failure, losing power in both engines, and collided with a vehicle, resulting in one individual being hospitalized.

“Suddenly, the front wheel of the plane hit the car, crashing down. Sparks flew and debris scattered everywhere,” recounted James Coffey, an eyewitness to the incident.

The aircraft eventually came to a halt after hitting the median, while the female driver of a Toyota Camry managed to escape the wreckage.

Pastor Bernard Wigley and his wife Annie were among the first responders at the scene.

“The situation was so dire that it was the only spot where she could have survived. Had there been other passengers, the outcome could have been catastrophic,” Wigley remarked.

Annie Wigley is a nurse and was able to quickly offer aid to the driver of the car.

“She was dazed at first. She didn’t even notice, that notice the airplane that was right in front of the car what hit her, she thought a semi-truck hit her,” she said.

The woman was covered in broken glass and was treated for minor injuries.

The plane’s pilot and passenger, both 27 years old, were not injured, officials said.

Those on the ground said they are just thankful they were in the right place at the right time.

“Just a few seconds earlier or later with that airplane, it could have been a major, major catastrophe,” Wigley said.
