NABLUS – An Israeli military operation in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus on Sunday resulted in the death of a Palestinian man and left four others severely injured, as reported by the Palestinian Red Crescent.

The Palestinian Health Ministry revealed that the slain man’s wife was in a local hospital in labor when she received the devastating news of his death.

The Red Crescent detailed that gunfire during the military raid struck five individuals. Among them was Nayef Firas Ziad Samaro, aged 26, who was fatally wounded. His body was subsequently brought to the same hospital where his wife was giving birth. Additionally, a 12-year-old child sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

Eyewitnesses noted that the raid occurred as schools were dismissing students for the day, leading to a densely populated civilian area.

The Israeli military issued a statement claiming that their forces were responding to a situation in Nablus where several “terrorists” had allegedly thrown rocks at soldiers. The military reported firing shots and “several hits were identified.”

Concerns are mounting among Palestinians, human rights organizations, and international observers about escalating violence in the region. They highlight a troubling pattern where young Palestinian men face increasing fatalities amidst a backdrop of arson, vandalism, and the displacement of agricultural communities near Jewish settlements and outposts in the West Bank.

At least 42 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the year, according to the United Nations humanitarian office. Armed settlers were responsible for at least 11 of those fatalities.
