Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has become the subject of online mockery after appearing in a quirky new video promoting girlfriend Katy Perry’s latest single. Perry, 41, posted the clip to Instagram on Thursday, showing herself and friends dancing to “Watch It Burn,” which was released on June 25. Wearing a red polka-dot romper and thigh-high socks, the pop star bounced to the track while lip-syncing the lyrics. Trudeau, 54, later appeared in the background in khaki pants and a green T-shirt, joining the group by hopping along to the beat. “Ancient texts say that if you hop to this song you will get 1,000 years of good luck,” Perry joked in the caption.

The video quickly spread across X, where users wasted no time making jokes about Trudeau’s unexpected cameo and dance moves. “Former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau is promoting Katy Perry’s new song… by hopping like a rabbit. 2026 is wild,” one person wrote. This man was their Prime Minister, and he’s now a background character in a Katy Perry video.” The viral moment comes just weeks after Perry offered a rare glimpse into her relationship with Trudeau during an appearance on the “Unfamous” podcast. “I have love in my life now that’s transformed me,” she said. “You think that when The Beatles say ‘all you need is love’ it’s a cliche, but cliches are cliches for a reason.” Perry also credited therapy and transcendental meditation with helping her through what she described as a difficult year, following the end of her nine-year relationship with Orlando Bloom. The “Roar” singer made her red carpet debut with Trudeau at the New York City premiere of the “Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour” concert film on June 8.

At the event, Perry spoke openly about their romance and the sense of stability she says Trudeau has brought into her life. “I am very in love. Actually, that show was after I met the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that,” she told People. “I’m a little bit like a rainbow kite. I fly super high and like, touch the veil, cosmos and sometimes I need to be anchored. So, to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now. Every day is a fantastic journey, and every day is a chance to evolve, and to be a better person and do the right thing and to be a model for your community, for your family, for your world. I feel like a more grounded person in so many aspects of my life,” she added. Perry and Bloom confirmed the end of their engagement in June 2025. A month later, she was seen having dinner with Trudeau. The pair became Instagram official in December and have since appeared comfortable sharing their relationship publicly.
