WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — Police say a dog that was in a stolen car in Wheat Ridge on Thursday morning has been found safe.

The Wheat Ridge Police Department said the car, an Audi A4 with Arizona license plate BEA1BYA, was stolen from a Circle K gas station at 4885 Kipling Street, just north of Interstate 70.

Two dogs were inside the car, police said. One of them was recovered uninjured shortly after the car was stolen. However, the second dog, named Malachi, was missing for several hours.

Around 3:30 p.m., police said Malachi had been found safe. He had been dumped near an animal shelter before the suspect driver fled in the stolen vehicle, police said.
