A 44-year-old man in West Virginia was arrested for allegedly killing his wife, stabbing her to death with a broken one-gallon glass jug, then transporting her body to a family member’s home where he sought help cleaning up the crime scene.
Randall Joel Moore was taken into custody on Sunday and charged with one count of first-degree murder in the slaying of Monica Jo Moore, court records reviewed by Law&Crime show.
Troopers from the Marlinton detachment of the West Virginia State Police at about 7:15 a.m. on March 17 responded to a dead-on-arrival call from a home on Green Bank Road in West Virginia, Clarksburg NBC and ABC affiliate WBOY reported. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders said they found a deceased female, later identified as Monica Moore, in the passenger seat of a Jeep Cherokee parked in front of the home. She was “lying upside down in the fetal position,” police reportedly wrote in the criminal complaint.
Several of Moore’s family members were at the home and spoke to the troopers about the grisly details of Randall Moore’s arrival.
According to a report from The Inter-Mountain, the family said that Randall Moore “showed up at the address at approximately 6 a.m. covered in blood,” per the complaint. He then reportedly told them, “Monica Moore was dead and he needed help cleaning up stuff,” police wrote.
The troopers reportedly examined the vehicle in which the victim was found where they found additional incriminating evidence.
“(Troopers) observed multiple blood spatter patterns inside the above stated vehicle and also observed that (Randall) Moore had visible wounds to both hands and was covered in blood,” the complaint reportedly states.
Authorities obtained and executed a search warrant on Moore’s home where they allegedly found what they believed to be the murder weapon. Investigators reportedly said they recovered “multiple pieces of a broken glass gallon jug” which “appeared to be consistent with the fatal injuries of the victim, and Mr. (Randall) Moore’s hand injuries.”
Authorities arrested Randall just before 6 p.m. and transported him to Tygart Valley Regional Jail where he is currently being held without bond, jail records show. It was not immediately clear when Randall Moore was scheduled to appear in court.
