BARROW COUNTY, Ga. — In Barrow County, court filings reveal that a trial date has been established for the father connected to the tragic incident at Apalachee High School.

The scheduling order, signed April 29, sets Colin Gray’s trial for Sept. 8, 2025.

Colin Gray is charged with supplying the firearm used by his son, Colt Gray, in the shooting that occurred on September 4, 2024, which resulted in the deaths of two students and two teachers, along with several others injured. Colin Gray is facing 29 charges in total, among them second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to children.

Recently, a judge ruled that the jury for Colin Gray’s impending trial will not be selected from Barrow County due to concerns about impartiality following the horrific events of last year. This decision followed a motion filed by his legal team requesting a change in trial location. The new venue for the trial has yet to be announced.

Colt Gray also filed a motion requesting a change of venue for similar reasons. His attorneys claim changing the location is necessary to ensure that the teen has a fair trial before an impartial jury. 

“Gray will not be able to receive a fair trial in Barrow County due to the Extensive pre-trial publicity and the overall state of feelings of Barrow County residents towards him,” the filing stated. 

A decision has not been made on Colt Gray’s motion.

On Sept. 4, 2024, two students and two teachers were killed at Apalachee High when authorities said the accused shooter, student Colt Gray, opened fire inside the school. Others were also injured. 

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the four people who died as: 

Colt Gray was previously indicted by a grand jury and faces 55 charges, including felony and malice murder charges. He is expected to be tried as an adult.
