ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 20-year-old man was taken into custody after his 3-month-old infant, who was found deceased, was discovered to have multiple skull and rib fractures, as reported by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
On Tuesday, the sheriff’s office announced that Darius Stephone Nichols is facing charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in connection with the death of his daughter.
Deputies said Nichols reported his baby was unconscious on April 30 after falling from a couch.
Additionally, the sheriff’s office stated that an autopsy revealed the infant had skull fractures found in “numerous places” and several healing rib fractures indicating previous incidents.
“In her short life, baby Nova suffered horrific abuse and trauma. She is resting peacefully now, and our detectives will get justice for baby Nova,” the sheriff’s office wrote on social media.
Nichols is currently booked in the Orange County jail.
