MURRAY, Utah (ABC4) Linda Peterson was 29 years old and five-and-a-half months pregnant when she went missing from Utah in 1978. Police are still looking for answers.

Local authorities posted on social media Tuesday, asking the public for additional information. Linda was last seen on Sept. 16, 1978, and was a nurse at the University of Utah. She lived in Murray, Utah, and went to church, according to the post.

The Murray Police Department asked the public to “share any memory or information you may have” and said that even “the smallest detail” could help find Linda. Police posted photos of the missing woman, along with a series of questions and statements phrased as if Linda were saying them.

“I’ve been missing for 47 years and Murray Police are trying to bring me home, but they need your help,” the post reads.

Who is Linda Peterson?

According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, Linda was first reported missing by her husband, William Peterson, who told police that his wife had left home with friends in a station wagon.

William said Linda was heading to Kentucky to meet with some other friends, but he “became worried when he didn’t hear from Linda,” according to the DPS.

Linda is described as 5’8″ tall, weighing 130 pounds, with dark brown hair and hazel eyes. According to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, she was last seen wearing an orange maternity top and blue jeans.

According to NamUs, Linda reportedly stopped by her husband’s place of work to tell him she was heading to Kentucky.

She would now be 76 years old.

“Linda has no known direct family members,” the DPS said.

Anyone with information or memories has been asked to call 801-264-2673 or email Detective Gruendell at kgruendell@murray.utah.gov.
