Life in the dystopia of Gilead has hit a critical breaking point in The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6.
Last week’s episode featured June (Elisabeth Moss) spearheading a covert group of handmaids into Serena and Commander Wharton’s wedding, where they managed to drug and eliminate several of the commanders who had oppressed them over the years. The brutal revenge scheme seemed like a rare triumph for the handmaids, but this week’s episode of The Handmaid’s Tale quickly reminded viewers that it’s unusual to find a happy ending in a place like Gilead.
As we approach the finale of Season 6, June’s allies are being systematically eliminated. Considering this has already turned out to be one of the most intense seasons of the popular Hulu series, many fans now speculate whether this could mark the end of our journey in Gilead or if the show will return for yet another season.
Here is everything we know about what is going to happen next in The Handmaid’s Tale.
How many episodes are in Season 6 of The Handmaid’s Tale?
There are 10 The Handmaid’s Tale episodes in Season 6. Unfortunately, there is only one episode left this season.
Will there be The Handmaid’s Tale Season 7?
Season 6 signifies the conclusion of The Handmaid’s Tale series. In this final season, June, Luke, and Moira are at the forefront of the resistance against Gilead, while her allies within – such as Commander Lawrence, Serena, Nick, and Aunt Lydia – confront the parts they’ve played in maintaining this oppressive regime.
Though there will not be a Season 7 of The Handmaid’s Tale, Hulu and FX have already announced that they will be adapting Margaret Atwood’s new book The Testaments, which is set 15 years after the events of the first book.
Ann Dowd will be reprising her role as Aunt Lydia for the series. She will be joined by Chase Infiniti who is playing Hannah, June and Luke’s daughter, and Lucy Halliday will be playing Daisy.
