During an episode of The View, Sara Haines issued an apology to the viewers after making a contentious joke amidst a discussion on Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal troubles related to sex trafficking.
The unsettling moment arose after Alyssa Farah Griffin described how 50 Cent, a rapper known to have a long-standing feud with Diddy, was actively working to sway President Trump against granting Diddy a pardon should he be found guilty of the charges of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy he currently faces.
“50 Cent has had some kind of connection with Trump… He announced that he plans to talk to Trump about the reasons Diddy should not receive a pardon, having criticized Diddy for years,” Griffin elaborated on the show.
Haines then interjected to add, “Everyone’s been on Diddy’s things,” which prompted a laugh from Griffin but caused the View audience to loudly groan in response.
Haines quickly realized the joke did not land with the audience and quickly apologized, though her co-hosts continued their discussion without noticing the misstep.
The rest of the Hot Topics segment continued without a hitch as Behar questioned why Trump seems to be pardoning more rappers. Earlier on in the discussion, Griffin also pointed out that, unlike other celebrity cases, Diddy does not seem to have the court of public opinion on his side.
Sunny Hostin also slammed Trump’s willingness to pardon Diddy, calling it “shameful.”
“I’ve been in that court room almost every single day and we’re hearing about women who were physically abused, who were sexually abused, who were mentally and emotionally abuse, and the thought that [Trump] would just consider it and he himself has been found civilly liable for sexual abuse, the fact that he would be so dismissive of these charges is really something that is shameful. It’s just shameful,” Hostin said.
Joy Behar interjected to joke that Trump “would pardon Jack The Ripper if he was alive.”
